DATIS Data Migration
We are excited to announce that the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) Drug and Alcohol Treatment Information System (DATIS) will be migrating from on-premises physical servers to a new cloud-based hosting system.
The purpose of this letter is to notify you of this change to the storage method of data that is hosted by CAMH on behalf of organizations such as yours (“Providers”) under a written agreement (Memorandum of Understanding, Participant Agreement, or Service Provider Agreement) entered into between you and CAMH.
As CAMH is responsible for the administration of DATIS applications and databases and storage of all data on behalf of Providers who submit or access data using this infrastructure at CAMH, we are providing this letter to you to make you aware of this change.
What is changing?
The DATIS system has resided at CAMH on CAMH servers since 2000. In consultation with CAMH Information Technology (IT), Legal, Privacy and Security and Ontario Health, we agreed that migrating DATIS to a cloud-based infrastructure would modernize the technical environment and bolster cybersecurity. Over the next 6-8 months, CAMH will migrate all the DATIS software applications, databases and tools to a third party’s cloud infrastructure, hosted within Canada.
What does this mean?
This change has no impact on the operational process by which you currently submit or access data. All of the privacy and security obligations and commitments that CAMH has made to Providers in our written agreement remain the same. CAMH is still responsible for ensuring all appropriate access controls are in place, including controlled entry to the hosting environment. As has always been the case, no data will be stored outside of Canada.
We will provide advanced notice of downtime required to migrate applications and databases to the cloud.
