Based on the definition provided by Public Health Ontario, health equity is created when individuals have the fair opportunity to reach their fullest health potential. Achieving health equity requires reducing unnecessary and avoidable differences that are unfair and unjust. Many causes of health inequities relate to social and environmental factors including: income, social status, race, gender, education and physical environment.
In 2021, The Grove in Wellington County-Guelph became one of 14 Youth Wellness Hub Ontario (YWHO) sites which initiated health equity initiatives. One year earlier, the original Integrated Youth Services Network (IYSN) had commissioned Homewood Research Institute to conduct a developmental evaluation of the Guelph hub, providing key insights into their implementation process. This document summarizes the results of the Health Equity Impact Assessment (HEIA) and is intended to serve as a guide to support the planning of an YWHO site. It’s important to recognize that in addition to using tools like the HEIA, it’s essential to move that knowledge into action. En 2021, The Grove, à Guelph, dans le comté de Wellington, est devenu un des 14 Carrefours bien-être pour les jeunes de l’Ontario (CBEJO). Une année auparavant, ce réseau de services intégrés pour les jeunes (RSIJ) avait demandé au Homewood Research Institute de réaliser une évaluation développementale du carrefour de Guelph, qui a permis d’en savoir plus sur son processus de mise en oeuvre1.
