Definition:

Following agency policy, procedure and process this is a date the agency staff deems the client suitable for admission and subsequent treatment at the agency.

Guide for Use:

Admission to the agency follows agency policy, procedure, and process and signals that the agency has undertaken to provide or further assist a client with assessment and/or treatment services (registered in a service program) on an on-going basis. Usually the admissions precedes the completion of the screening/intake process, the agency's decisions that the client is suitable for the agency's services and the formal assessment phase in treatment is available. 

Date Range Format:

Day (DD), Month (MM), Year (YYYY) are collected in separate fields and formatted.

Business Rules:

  • Admission dates cannot overlap but can be sequential
  • An Admission must have a discharge date before a second admission can be open
  • The admission date must be less than or equal to the discharge date and the program start date
  • Admission date cannot be a future date from the date of input 
  • Day must be equal to or greater than one (1), and equal to or less than thirty-one (31) dependent on the month
  • Month must be equal to or greater than one (1) and equal to or less than twelve (12)
  • Admission date must be greater than the date of birth and less than the date of death

Context:

  • Admission date is used to indicate admission to an agency and allows program registration(s)
  • Admission date is used to identify the number of clients admitted to an agency during a reporting period and to establish active client caseloads
  • Admission date together with discharge date:
    • enables reporting of treatment received by clients in all service types within the two (2) dates as one "episode" of treatment, or as a client admission at the agency level
    • is used to count the number of admissions within any reporting time period for those clients with multiple admission to an agency
