At the hub, when youth are provided the sociodemographic questionnaire the question they receive related to pronouns is:

Rationale for this question:

• Asking and using correct pronouns can show youth that their gender identity is respected.
• Showing that you respect the way a young person self-identifies can create a safe space that is affirming for gender diverse youth.

Important considerations:

• Address a young person based on how they self-identify.
• Provide your own pronouns to demonstrate that you are informed.
• Some youth may choose multiple pronouns. It is okay to ask if there is a preference.
• Some youth may prefer no pronouns, and only wish to be referred to by their name.
• Some youth might go by a name that is different then what is on their health cards or documents. Always address youth by the name and pronouns they have provided to you.
