Determining Support Needs to Complete Sociodemographic Questions

It is advisable to not administer tools if a young person is:

  • In crisis
  • Experiencing a psychotic episode
  • Expressing Thoughts of self-harm or suicide
  • Intoxicated

If the youth wishes to complete the questionnaires despite challenges, consider:

  • Orally administering the tools
  • Interpreting the results with caution
  • Re-administering at a subsequent visit

Support Considerations for Youth to Complete the Questions

  • Accommodating young people with disabilities
  • Low levels of literacy
  • English/French as a second language

Support options:

  • Oral administration
  • Adjust setting / format of questions
  • Staff or peer support
  • Use of an interpreter / translation
  • Having a youth worker and/or friend with them if that makes the young person more comfortable
