CLIENT DEMOGRAPHICS Section

NEP Report Fields:

Total Number of contacts (existing clients + new clients) for each gender listed is calculated from the number of interactions entered on the Needle Exchange Transaction screen below. Visits need to log at least one NEP service or item (excludes Naloxone kits/services), and ONP visits recorded as NEP Transactions are not counted.   Since this total is derived from the number of individual visits, and not unique clients, it is a reflection of the number of visits to your sites, and not a count of unique clients or individuals.

When 'Other Gender Not Listed' or 'Not Specified' are selected, they are combined to create the 'Other/Undisclosed' report total, and this column is where anonymous transactions are counted.

Number of new contacts for each gender selected is calculated from the number of clients whose first contact with the agency has been made during the period(s) selected in the NEP report parameter section. Please note that new clients for the NEP program are counted as ‘new’ if they have both a client code (no anonymous clients counted) and have had their first NEP transaction in the selected reporting period.

Average age of clients for each gender selected is calculated from the average age of clients as derived from the client reference code date.  For the client reference code TEST1990, the age of the client would be calculated by the difference between the maximum date selected in the report parameter and January 1st of the year entered in the client reference code entered on the Needle Exchange Transaction screen below, or 1990 in the case of TEST1990.

Important Note: This section does not include the interactions where clients only access a naloxone kit & Ontario Naloxone Program services and no other services provided by the NEP.

Needle Exchange/Syringe Statistics

NEP Report Fields:

Estimated number of needles taken in

Estimated number of needles taken in is calculated as the sum of all the needle return amounts entered under 'Quantity Returned' in the NEO Needle Exchange Transaction module.

The total amount of needles returned in the Needle Exchange Transaction module is comprised of the addition of the NEO fields shown below:

NEP Needle Exchange Transaction item Total Needles returned

Any needles returned as an individual item in a Needle Exchange Transaction are counted only once.  In the example to the right, the item 'Total needles returned' is entered as 100 in the 'Quantity Returned' column for a total of 100 needles returned in this transaction.

The total amount of needles returned in the Needle Exchange Transaction module is comprised of the addition of the NEO fields shown below:

NEP Needle Exchange Transaction item Total Bin needles returned

Any needles returned in bins are multiplied on the backend by the number of needles specified as returned in the bin.  In the example to the right, the 1L Bin item selected contains 40 returned needles, so the quantity of 1 bin returned is multiplied by 40 needles returned per bin for a total of 40 needles returned in this transaction.

Estimated number of needles given out

Estimated number of needles given out is calculated as the sum of all the needle dispensed amounts entered under 'Quantity Dispensed' in the NEO Needle Exchange Transaction module.

The total amount of needles dispensed in the Needle Exchange Transaction module is comprised of the addition of the NEO fields shown below:

NEP Needle Exchange Transaction item Total Needles dispensed

Any needles dispensed as a part of a kit in a Needle Exchange Transaction are multiplied on the backend by the number of needles specified as dispensed in the kit.  In the example to the right, under the section Kits - Test Sites the item 'Injection Kit' contains 5 dispensed needles, so the quantity of 1 kit dispensed is multiplied by 5 needles dispensed per kit for a total of 5 needles dispensed in this transaction.

Any needles dispensed as an individual item in a Needle Exchange Transaction are counted only once.  In the example to the right, under the section Injection equipment the item '1ml Insuline Syringe 28 ga x 1/2 inch (longs)' is entered as 1 in the 'Quantity Dispensed' column for a total of 1 needle dispensed in this transaction.
